Bernard PLOSSU

Gilles Mora

Right now, Bernard Plossu is living in France, even though he is still globetrotting. He started taking photographs quite by chance in Mexico in 1965. His oeuvre overlaps with the evolution of contemporary French photography. His sensual images, with their noiseless, motionless vibrations, tell us about the softness of bodies, matter, and movement, and other “intermediate landscapes”. Themes such as journeys, space and the family are often broached in an autobiographical way, and we find in his work a private style, and a language which can be identified over the years (Signatures, Maison de photographes).

« Nothing can be more abstract than what we really see . »
Giorgio Morandi

« Photography speaks of all those seemingly unimportant moments
which are in fact so very important »

« Photography doesn't capture time, but evokes it. It flows endlessly like fine sand, and the changing landscapes change nothing. »
Bernard Plossu

« One doesn't look at Bernard Plossu's books : one reads them. »
Gilles Mora

Artistes contemporains : Per Kirkeby, Patrick Sainton

Mizoguchi.
L'intelligence italienne : Dino Risi avec l'acteur Alberto Sordi. L'humour plus que le drame.
Lire tout le temps (Honoré de Balzac, Louis Ferdinand Céline, Malcom Lowry, Albert Cossery, Michel Butor et les paysages intermédiaires, Carlo Emilio Gadda, Amin Maalouf, tous les écrivains siciliens, Jean-Claude Izzo et Marseille...), Beau-fixe de Jean Christophe Bailly
Photographie

History and human history.
Walking through ruins. Walking through deserts to understand : the Anasazis in the west, the Nemrud Dag in Turkey, Meïdoum in Egypt

Film : Le Salon de Musique by Satyajit Ray, the Nouvelle Vague,

Photography : A quote by Dubuffet in Apercevoir :
« There is a whole range of degrees to attention. You see many things at once, in a crackling, some inadvertently, barely noticed, as if obliquely, at an acute angle; others on which your vision settled more perpendicularly,a bit longer perhaps. »
