Sandra Hauser, qui monte à cheval depuis l’âge de trois ans, a décidé en 2019 d’intégrer son affinité personnelle avec les chevaux dans sa pratique artistique. Depuis lors, elle est immergée dans le développement de « I Would Prefer Not To » avec Don Orèo, un jeune hongre Cruzado. Il s’agit d’un projet à long terme perméable, qui se déploie dans un mouvement relationnel avec les participant·e·s et qui, de manière incidente, interroge et valide des notions déformées de rêve, de traumatisme et de liberté dans l’espace public.

L’artiste a grandi à Munich et, avant d’étudier les beaux-arts, y a travaillé comme scénographe, costumière et dans la mise en scène. C’est pourquoi l’Épisode III évoquera également des récits existants et méconnus et tentera de se défaire de crises passées. Sandra Hauser part avec Don Orèo sur les traces de ses origines. Ils deviennent partie prenante de « The Wolpertinger Project » de Gabi Blum (Public Art Munich) et se perdent, sur la longue route vers Sacramento, comme Zorro, Gringo et Zapata autrefois dans les "Münchner G’schichten" de Helmut Dietl.
La phrase de Bartleby de Melville, qui résiste avec courtoisie en répétant « I Would Prefer Not To », renvoie aux tensions et aux limites qui apparaissent lorsque les besoins divergents du cheval, de l’artiste, du public, de l’institution et des financeurs doivent être équilibrés. Les performances ont lieu sans annonce préalable. Toutefois, les explorations spatiales — principalement des promenades en soirée — de Sandra Hauser et Don Orèo peuvent être suivies en direct via une caméra GoPro sur iwouldprefernotto.org. Dans ce contexte, IWPNT constitue un commentaire sur la transmissibilité numérique des réalités, ainsi que sur leurs potentiels sculpturaux et narratifs — voire humoristiques.

L’origine d’IWPNT se situe dans l’environnement rude d’une zone industrielle du delta du Rhône, non loin de Marseille, où l’artiste a rencontré et entraîné Don Orèo. Les performances et la résidence au Cultuurcentrum Strombeek à Grimbergen (Bruxelles) de l’Épisode I, en mai 2022, ont abordé la genèse de ce travail processuel et ses défis. L’Épisode II s’est concentré, entre autres, sur l’architecture urbaine, ses fissures et ses vides, ainsi que sur l’empreinte socio-culturelle des animaux sur les humains, en prenant pour point de départ le Wiener Trabrennverein à la Krieau de Vienne, fondé par KÖR Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Wien.

Résidence Sommeratelier, Kunstraum München
Cette année, en lien avec son programme du 50e anniversaire, le Kunstraum met simultanément son étage supérieur et son premier étage à disposition de deux invité·e·s en tant qu’atelier d’été. Ce format désormais traditionnel permet à des artistes travaillant localement d’utiliser le Kunstraum München comme espace de travail pendant sa pause estivale. À l’issue de la résidence d’un mois, un Open Studio est organisé.

WPNT & The Wolpertinger Project
IWPNT est très heureux d’être invité aujourd’hui et de faire partie de « The Wolpertinger Project » de Gabi Blum : visite et discussion à 17 h, point de rendez-vous Menzinger Straße 118. Nous marcherons vers des lieux marquants du quartier et discuterons de quelques maisons (anciennes, nouvelles, vides, disparues) avec leurs propriétaires ou leurs voisin·e·s, pour finalement nous arrêter chez Irene Bauer-Conrad, Lechelstraße, et visiter son atelier. Avec des battes et des crottins de cheval. La Giesinger Brauerei offrira quelques bières et il y aura de l’Obazda fait maison, ainsi qu’une discussion avec les artistes, modérée par Lena von Geyso, réunissant Irene Bauer-Conrad, Gabi Blum et Sandra Hauser, accompagnée de projections vidéo dans le garage. Il s’agit du dernier événement de *The Wolpertinger Project*.

Sandra Hauser, who has been riding since she was three years old, decided 2019 to use her personal affinity to horses in her artistic practice. They become part of "The Wolpertinger Project" by Gabi Blum (Public Art Munich) and lose themselves on the long way to Sacramento like Zorro, Gringo and Zapata in Münchner G'schichten by Helmut Dietl once did.

The phrase of Melville’s Bartleby, who withstands with courtesy, while he is repeating »I Would Prefer Not To« points to the trouble and the boundaries that arise when the different needs of horse, artist, audience, institution and funders must be balanced. The performances take place unannounced. However, the spatial surveys of Sandra Hauser's and Don Orèo's mostly evening walks can be followed live by GoPro Cam on iwouldprefernotto.org. In this context, IWPNT is a comment on the digital transmissibility of realities, along with their sculptural and narrative - even humoresque - potentials.

The origin of IWPNT lies in the harsh environment of an industrial area in the Rhône Delta not far from Marseille, where the artist met and trained Don Orèo. Performances and the residence at Cultuurcentrum Strombeek, Grimbergen (Brussels) of Episode I in May 2022 addressed the genesis of the process-based work and its challenges. Episode II focused, among other things, on urban architecture, along with its cracks and voids, and the socio-cultural imprint of animals on humans, as it was based at the Wiener Trabrennverein at the Krieau of Vienna founded by KÖR Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Wien.

Sommeratelier residency, Kunstraum München
This year, based on its program for the 50th anniversary, the Kunstraum is offering its upper and first floors to two guests at the same time as a summer studio. This format, which has become traditional, allows locally active artists to use Kunstraum München as a working space during its summer break. At the end of the month-long residency, an Open Studio takes place.

IWPNT is more than happy to be invited and part of "The Wolpertinger Project" by Gabi Blum today, tour & talk at 5 pm, meeting point Menzinger Straße 118. We will walk to prominent highlights in the neighborhood and discuss a few houses (old, new, empty, disappeared) with their owners or neighbors, to finally stop at Irene Bauer-Conrad in Lechelstraße and get a studio tour. With bats and horse apples. The Giesinger Brauerei will donate a few beers and there will be handmade Obazda, plus an artist talk moderated by Lena von Geyso with Irene Bauer-Conrad, Gabi Blum and Sandra Hauser, as well as video screenings in the garage.
