C’est un cylindre émaillé blanc, fixé au mur à hauteur de tête, et dont la face avant est un miroir sans tain. Au milieu de ce miroir, apparaît par transparence une petite image vidéo. Cette image provient d’une caméra miniature placée derrière le miroir.
Le visiteur, en s’approchant pour mieux distinguer, voir ce que contient cette image, va s’apercevoir que c’est son propre visage qui est, non seulement réfléchit par le miroir, mais aussi filmé. En s’approchant d’avantage encore, pour mieux comprendre, combler sa curiosité, il va enclencher la rotation de la caméra... C’est l’image de son visage, de sa propre tête qu’il voit tourner sur elle-même, sur 360° et en continu, le temps de sa présence. C’est une image complètement déformée, étirée par la rotation de la caméra, semblable à une spirale, à un trou noir dans lequel les yeux du spectateur plongent. La rotation cessera au moment où il l’y aura plus personne à filmer, au moment où la machine, via le capteur, ne détectera plus de présence, de “regardeur”.
A cylinder in white enamel, attached to the wall at the height of the head, whose front side is a two-way mirror. In the middle of this mirror, a small video image appears owing to an effect of transparency.
This image comes from a camera placed behind the mirror. Approaching to better discern this image and see what it contains, the visitor recognizes his/her own face, not just reflected by the mirror, but filmed as well.
Approaching further still, to understand and satisfy his/her curiosity, he triggers the camera’s rotation. It’s the image of his own face, seen turning on itself, continuously at 360°, for the duration of his presence. The image is copletely deformed, stretched by the camera’s rotation, resembling a spiral, a black hole in which the speactator’s eyes plunge. The rotation stops the moment there’s no one left to be filmed, when the machine, by way of the presence sensor, no longer detects the “watcher’s” presence. |
