A l’issu d’une résidence de trois mois (septembre-décembre 1999) et dans le cadre d’un atelier de création collective, le principe de mon intervention est d’organiser une fête avec des patients de l’hôpital et des personnes de l’extérieur. Le groupe reçoit en tant qu’hôte, organisateur, “décideur” des règles du jeu social donnant une fête codifiée.
La réalisation d’une fête est l’occasion de jouer avec les règles convenables et “sérieuses”. Elle permet d’accentuer ou d’oublier toutes normes et formes de politesse en marquant un contraste avec la vie quotidienne : l’art de la réception est un art vivant. La réunion festive contribue à renouer un lien social et renforce la convivialité, le mélange entre des personnes d’horizons différents ; elle crée l’échange, le don, la surprise, la transformation.
La fête a engendré tout un travail sur l’ambiance festive, la décoration, l’environnement plastique ( guirlandes, “rameaux”, boules… ), le buffet, la musique, la danse : entre l’essentiel et le superflu. Il s’agit d’un flux ininterrompu d’activités allant vers la création d’une seule et même chose pour tous : une soiré dansante.

After a three-month long residency (september to December 1999) and in the context of a group creation workshop, the principle of my intervention is to organize a party with the hospital’s patients and people from outside. As the host, organizer, and “decider”, the group receives rules of the social game providing for a codified party. Organizaing a party provides the occasion to play with convenient and “serious” rules. It allows one to accentuate and forget all norms and forms of politeness by establishing a contrast with daily life: the art of receiving is a lively art. The festive gathering contributes to reestablishing a social bond and re-enforces conviviality, mixing between people of different backgrounds ; it allows the exchange, the gift, surprise, and transformation. The party has engendered much work on the festive atmosphere, decoration, esthetic environment (garlands, “branches”, balls...), the buffet, music, dance : between the essential and the superfluous. It’s a matter of an uninterrupted flow of activities geared towards the creation of one and the same thing thing for all : a dance party.
