Quatre installations de ‘néo-land-art’ inspirées par l’histoire géologique, humaine et viticole du site. Chaque œuvre a été créée en étroite collaboration avec l’équipe du vignoble, et explore la tension entre ‘manmade’ et naturel qui imprègne ce lieu hors du commun… All this is ahead of you, all this is behind you / fin #3 : cadran solaire en pierre sèche et plexiglas calé sur le solstice d’été ; montjoie et flèche qui guide l’œil tout en haut du mur vertigineux de calcaire qui domine le domaine vers le Pic des Mouches, et puis vers le ciel intense ; écho des couleurs d’aube et de crépuscule qui illuminent la montagne ; reflet des lames triangulaires de calcaire qui marquent cette face de la Sainte Victoire. The Illusion of Empathy : six pierres recueillies sur le domaine sont coupées, polies et insérées dans la nouvelle restanque ; sur les hauteurs, ce calcaire est, sur certains sentiers, poli comme du marbre par le passage de milliers de mains et de pieds ; ici on célèbre la pierre (qui donne son goût unique au vin) et ‘l’invisible’ travail de Laurent, le murailleur ; le public est prié de toucher cette œuvre pérenne - et ainsi d’augmenter sa brillance. I’d take a happiness that didn’t last over a certainty that did / nid #3 : les pieds de vigne forment une contre-vague face au tsunami de la Sainte ; barque, baraque, berceau – la structure en sarments s’échoue ; et l’homme s’enracine. Upwards Falling : un espace pour finalement se projeter au-delà de la terre et entrer dans le zénith pour absorber ses bleus toujours en mouvement ; la couleur du ciel est amplifiée par le jeu d’optique créé par le ‘cabanon-cadre’ blanc-orange et ses ombres. |

Four installations: néo-land-art inspired by the geological-, human- and viticultural history of the site. Each work explores the tension between ‘manmade’ and ‘natural’ that permeates this exceptional space, and was created in close consultation with the workers at the vineyard… All this is ahead of you, all this is behind you / fin #3: dry-stone and perspex sundial set on and to the summer solstice; cairn and arrow guiding the eye up the cricked-neck inducing wall of limestone that looms over the domaine to the Pic des Mouches, and then to the intense blue sky above; echo of the colours of dusk and dawn that illuminate the mountain; mirror of the triangular blades of limestone which caracterise this section of the Sainte Victoire. The Illusion of Empathy: six rocks from around the domaine are cut, polished and inserted into the newly-built ‘restanque’ (provençal terracing); on the mountainside pathways this same limestone can become like marble, polished as it is by the passing of thousands of hands and feet; here we celebrate the rock (essential to the unique flavour of the wines) and the ‘invisible’ work of Laurent, the stone-mason; the public is politely requested to touch this permanent artwork, so increasing its lustre. I’d take a happiness that didn’t last over a certainty that did / nid #3: in the face of the Sainte Victoire’s tsunami of limestone the vine roots form a counter-wave; boat, bothy, cradle – the ‘sarment’ (vine-shoot) structure washes ashore; and man takes root. Upwards Falling: a space to finally project oneself beyond the earth and up into the zenith to absorb its ever changing blues; the colour of the sky is amplified by the optical illusion created by the orange and white ‘cabin-frame’ and its shadows. |
